"Once again the world was at peace, it had been months since Dr. Wily last attacked. Dr. Wily has attacked the world several times over with his crazy schemes of world domination. But this peace would be short lived once again..."
- OG Mega Man Revolution's Intro scene

Mega Man Revolution also known as (OG Revo) is a fan made game by Mike Crain who is now known as Corlenbelspar, a music artist who jumped at the chance to make a Mega Man fan game. It features two playable characters: Mega man and Bass, (eight playable characters in Remix) Eight Bosses, an additional 8 Special Weapons which are unique for Mega Man and Bass, quite a few stage gimmicks and some original enemies as well as returning enemies. with meticulous attention paid to keeping it up with the limitations of the NES where even sprite flicker may be present (although this can be shut off in the options) the game was made using Multimedia Fusion 2, as the soundtrack was being made in Impulse Tracker, with the program OpenMPT.

Development started in 2002 right after Mega Man's Hyperball as an on-going ten year long project which has slowly been added to, updated, and improved since the first version.

The game has been finished and released on July 2013, way before Mega Man Unlimited was released.

Development was halted for 2 years after it's release until 2015, where the project would later pass the torch onto Sprites-Inc by ACESpark, who is well known for creating Mega Man's Christmas Carol, and Quint's Revenge along with it's Sequel being in development, as well as being the Judge for the MAGMML series, in order to finish it off by improving the quality of the game, design-wise, graphically, and musically as well as adding Proto Man as a playable character. The very first V-Log would not be shown until June 13, 2015, It remained as "Mega Man Revolution" until it was eventually renamed to "Mega Man Revolution Remix" on May 23, 2016.

As of October 2017, Mike Crain has entirely redone the OST in Famitracker and fixed many issues that the original had. It can be listened by clicking here. (Now outdated as he stated that it would stay up even with the Final Version uploaded)

But around April 13 2019, ACESpark posted a update announcing that he would no longer work on the project due to his life and health problems as Mike Crain would return to lead development of Mega Man Revolution Remix, revealing that the game would be ported to Construct 3 from scratch, giving it far more engine capabilities that Multimedia Fusion 2 failed to do so. ACESpark also declared that Remix wasn't Cancelled yet. A preview of Custom Man was posted on May 4, 2021.

In August 11, 2022 Remix was reported to be near completion in the Make a Good Mega Man Level 3 - Results stream announcement. And September 2022, ACESpark hosted a livestream of Revolution Remix in it's Beta form as Proto Man with all of the 8 RMs and 6 Wily Castle Stages (Minus the Cutscenes, Robot Museum and Sondebar Base).

But unfortunately as of August 2023, The End of 2023, and today. Revolution Remix's Twitter account went defunct due to issues with Twitter/X. As Burnouts, Other stuff, and Real Life Problems has led Revolution Remix's development to be suddenly halted, and then after that, the project eventually languished in Development Hell indefinitely without any updates on the game's progress or release date announcement, now having no signs of completion. It's unknown what has happened to Remix nor what caused this to had no further updates or news following Remix's development, but it can be rumored/assumed that Mike Crain kept adding lots of never ending content instead of the main game, which may have caused the project to end up like this. And because of Revolution Remix not getting any chance in the spotlight in Ace's "End of year" stream due to Mike's two spinal surgeries, his own set of physical illnesses, and his mental issues on top of it, it's very unlikely that Revolution Remix will ever see it's finished state, it stayed that way to this very day, now remaining in it's radio silence ever since.

Story[]

Spoiler warning: Details of plots, secrets and/or endings may follow.

"The world had been at peace for many months following Dr. Wily's latest attack. But suddenly, eight of Dr. Light's own robots suddenly start acting strange and running amok. It turns out that Dr. Wily had corrupted these robots with Evil Energy, (said strain that Duo had come to destroy in the past) A strange new scientist named Dr. Neil A. Remir offers his assistance to Dr. Light, having been studying the effects of Evil Energy for some time, and helps to upgrade Mega Man to fight against the corrupted Robot Masters. Bass also sets out to stop Dr. Wily's latest scheme"

"After defeating four robot masters, Mega Man/Bass returns to Light's Lab to learn from Remir that this new strain is stronger than previous ones, though Dr. Light, in contrast to his partner, is optimistic that a cure can be found.

After defeating all of the robot masters, Dr. Remir finds Dr. Wily's Castle in India by tracking down its high concentration of evil energy. However, Remir warns that this particular Evil Energy is more like a virus. Dr. Light wonders what Wily could be planning, but Dr. Remir seems to have no answer.

Eventually, Dr. Wily is bested, however, He is attacked by an energy blast, rendering him unconscious before Dr. Remir reveals his true nature. An real mastermind who is behind the conflict. Now annoyed by Dr. Wily's failure, he declares his intention to release his evil energy into the atmosphere, and challenges Mega Man/Bass to stop him.

Upon returning to Light's Lab, Light informs Mega Man/Bass that all of their research had been stolen by Remir. Mega Man/Bass then reveals what transpired at Skull Castle, causing Dr. Light to reassure them that he understands, and implores them to stop Dr. Remir's mad schemes.

Utilizing a submarine, Mega Man/Bass manages to find an abandoned underwater military base dubbed "the Sondebar Base" deep within the Atlantic Ocean, tearing through its myriad defenses to confront Dr. Remir and his Machine. After defeating him, he scoffs at their efforts, declaring that he doesn't plan on giving up, commenting offhandedly about a family reunion in Alaska he has to attend, but his gloating is silenced by the floor beneath both him and Mega Man/Bass exploding, sending them both plummeting into the depths.

When Mega Man/Bass reaches the bottom, Dr. Remir is no where to be found, however, they discover a disturbingly Alien landscape obviously tainted by evil energy, with twisted monsters strewn about. Undisturbed, they charge onwards, receiving the Ion Blade from Proto Man soon after finding their weapons to be useless, and eventually discovering Dr. Remir in the deepest part of the lair, who is revealed to be an Alien to perform one last stand.

During the fight, he captures Mega Man/Bass with his telekinesis, before going on at length about his motivations. He reveals that he is a remnant of an alien society who had accidentally created, and was wiped out by, evil energy, the byproduct of their machines and waste. Bound to the Evil Energy, he sought out a world that he could infect as a testbed for evil energy, so he could better understand and eventually eradicate its infectious nature. However, Proto Man arrives and mocks his naive beliefs, angering the alien enough to prepare another attack. Proto Man manages to get off the first shot, killing Dr. Neil A. Remir and ending his threat as the Sondebar Base begins to explode" (No cutscene of the Sondebar Base being destroyed or sinking is shown, may change later in Remix)

"In Mega Man's ending, Mega Man ponders whether the battle is truly over, with Proto Man then arriving, having escaped from the destruction as well. After a long run to Dr. Light's lab, Mega Man arrives home to a relieved family, and reveals the truth about Dr. Remir, much to Dr. Light's shock. Not long after, Dr. Light finds another high concentration of evil energy in space, and Mega Man decides to destroy it all by himself.

In Bass's Ending, Bass returns to Dr. Wily's lab to discover that Wily had survived, after this, Bass reveals Dr. Remir's true nature and his intention to wipe out the Evil Energy, to Dr. Wily's surprise. After Bass departs, Wily reveals that he still has a few leftover samples of Remir's energy, intending to conquer the world with it, however, Bass quickly returns and destroys them, before mocking Wily as a fool for not recognizing his superiority. Afterwards, Proto Man arrives to destroy what little Evil Energy remains, and apphrehend Dr. Wily, taking a moment to thank Wily for creating the Ion Blade"

"If the MEGAMAN R/SONDEBAR plates hasn't been collected, then Mega Man/Bass sends Dr. Wily to prison while trying to escape, only for it to be foiled by Proto Man, after the cutscene it shows Dr. Wily being locked up in his jail cell like in Mega Man 6 and Hyperball as the Words "The End..." is shown but a question mark appears, indicating that something's not right. While the music plays, one of which is the same music that plays right after losing all lives."

Revolution Remix:

"In the year 20XX, from the far reaches of space. A meteor has crashed onto Earth, its passage was unnoticed by all, all except for one man."

"One year after this, robots from around the world suddenly turn violent, including the eight robot masters built by the famed Dr. Thomas Light. Unsurprisingly, the cause of this was none other than Dr. Albert Wily himself, who has once again risen to Take Over the World. But this time, he's now using a new and powerful strain of Evil Energy (said strain is what he found from the meteor that crashed a year earlier and that Duo had come to destroy it in the past) to corrupt the aforementioned eight Robot Masters. In order to put a stop to this, Dr. Light upgrades Mega Man in order for him to stand a chance against the new threat (giving him the Mega Arm MK. II)."

"However, a mysterious alien scientist who goes by the name of Dr. Neil A. Remir suddenly appears, claiming to be an expert on Evil Energy, he decides to help Dr. Light. But Proto Man, who’s eavesdropping on the conversation between Light and Remir, who is not only disappointed, but is now aware to see that Light hasn’t learned from his mistakes by trusting Dr. Neil A. Remir (knowing that something’s up with him). Meanwhile, at Wily's Skull Castle. Bass who has destroyed the Sniper Joe, is now infuriated and fed up that Dr. Wily is underutilizing him yet again. Now already powerful enough to take on the Robot Masters himself, he goes on his own quest to prove himself to Wily once and for all."

From Russia, Haste Man is a Robot Master whose mind is always on two things: speed and business. To put the two things together he created the Cyclone Staple, a high speed production plant that uses high-intensity lasers to aid in the precision-cutting of parts. He would even increase the speed of his own Wild Sprint weapon to get things done quicker, but would more often than not confuse himself from moving around too quickly. After being modified by Wily, he turned his factory into a death trap by combining his lasers with his security system to destroy anyone who would enter his lair.

The newest version in a series of lumberjack Robot Masters, Saw Man was designed to use a new type of saw called the Iron Saw that was made using a new specialized iron. Due to the funds put into making the Saw itself, the budget for Saw Man’s design was decreased. This forced Dr. Light to give him a simpler design with a lack of hands, something which he is insecure about. While working in Paraguay, Saw Man was reprogrammed by Wily causing him to go rampant and start cutting down the entire Amazon Rain Forest.

Trivia[]

  • Mega Man Revolution started development after Mega Man's Hyperball was released, but it was discontinued due to The Games Factory not being able to go well with the game. So development was restarted as it was moved to Multimedia Fusion 2, development for Remix restarted yet again as it was moved yet again to Construct 3.
  • The game was being developed in Multimedia Fusion 2 way before it was moved to Construct 3.
  • When Light's lab is selected in the Stage Select, It shows him and Neil A. Remir playing Pong. Which may be a nod to Mega Man's Hyperball way before Revolution was developed.
  • Had Remix been released with the main story being the focus without being stuck in Development Hell, Burnouts, adding a lot of unnecessary stuff, and any real life problems getting in the way, then Remix would be marked as the first Mega Man fangame to actually feature Minigames, Bonus Stages, 12-Bit Graphics, 8 Playable Characters, a Custom Character, a Randomizer, and a Enemy vs. Enemy.
  • In the Introduction to Revo Remix, Dr. Wily's irises were red instead of blue, this may be foreshadowing that Wily is not the villain.
  • It is unknown what has happened to Revolution Remix nor what caused it to enter development hell all of a sudden, but it was believed that Mike has slowed down as said by ACESpark himself in the end of his Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level livestream which would explain the lack of updates nor news. However Mike essentially adding lots of unnecessary stuff instead of just the main story and two spinal surgeries is what caused this game to fell into development hell.
  • It is unknown if Remix will get an actual Release date, but it might believe that ACESpark might complete Make a Good Mega Man Level 3, or until Next Year. But of course. Thanks to the game's troubled production, Mike adding a lot and a lot of never ending additional stuff, two spinal operations, and it's lack of updates. Remix is very unlikely to get an actual Release, it remained that way when however. Mike would claim that he will soldier on regardless of the problems he had, which may be a hint that Remix would not only eventually get a release, but would emerge from Development Hell.
  • In one of the SNES Sondebar Base Themes, one of Dr. Remir's Alien forms is shown behind the main antagonist minus the final phase, revealing that The final stage would have 3 parts and Phases for the final stage and boss.
  • The Soundtrack of OG Revo Was infamous thanks to Pyre Man's theme due to it having high pitched notes, the result has led Mike to Recreate The OG Soundtrack in OPL3, dubbing it as "Dying Cats".
  • A Demo for Remix was Planned which would feature 8 RM stages, a Robot Museum and 6 Wily Stages (Minus the Sondebar Stages) but it never came to fruition, making it the first Fangame to actually plan a Demo only for it to be Scrapped in favor of the final Release, if this hadn't been scrapped. Then it would been one of the most anticipated fangames of all time.
  • In the end of MM8BDM's Chapter 8 The Giant's Of Good and Evil! Revolution Remix's Title screen ends up making an appearance, but animated along with a different wily than the actual Title Screen.
  • Just like Mega Man F, and Mega Man Unlimited, Mega Man Revolution was originally gonna be a Connection between Mega Man X before the Evil Energy and Alien concept was chosen.
  • Unlike the Original, Remix has a sillier yet wackier tone while maintaining elements from the classic series, it would feature several aspects that would be sillier than what it is presented.
  • Unlike Mega Man 2.5D's Dr. Light who is a playable character. Remix's Dr. Light can instantly die in one hit whenever he takes damage from any enemy or boss fight.
  • In "Mega Man Revolution Remix - Fortress Tracks". Sondebar Base 4's theme is named "The Place That Sends You Mad" which is a reference to the Twelve Tasks of Astérix, a film that is released in 1976
